Santa Fe College
Santa Fe College, based in Gainesville, is one of the premier public colleges in the United States. A member of the Florida College System, a statewide system of 28 public colleges, Santa Fe was chartered by the State of Florida in 1965.
Santa Fe enrolls 24,000 degree-seeking students annually from throughout Florida, the United States, and 54 countries, and is accredited by the South Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award associate and bachelor degrees. Santa Fe ranks first in Florida among public colleges in graduation rate and ranks in the Top 10 nationally in the number of associate of arts degrees awarded. Most Santa Fe students who earn an associate of arts degree matriculate to the University of Florida, a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities. Santa Fe College is a charter member of the League for Innovation in the Community College and was recently named the #1 community college in the United States by the Aspen Institute.
Santa Fe is an international college. Over 1,000 students attend Santa Fe who graduated from high schools outside the United States, and 350 of them are on student visas. Many begin their studies in Santa Fe’s well-regarded English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program, where they develop the skills and vocabulary necessary to succeed in college coursework. Santa Fe employs faculty and staff from numerous countries, adding to the college's international culture. Santa Fe was the 2005 Heiskell Award winner for efforts made to internationalize the college, and over the past decade, has received three 2-year Department of Education Undergraduate International Studies and Foreign Languages (UISFL) grants to internationalize the College. Santa Fe College received the Senator Paul Simon Award for Comprehensive Internationalization Award earlier this year. Other international endeavors include an International Film Festival held each fall semester, a robust Study Abroad program, cultural events offered through a partnership with the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, and an International Studies Certificate.
